Learning about Turtles

I hope everyone is enjoying their first day of spring break!  I would like to know what happened to the warm sunny weather???  Sure hope it returns sometime this upcoming week...

We started off our week with help from my daughter, Briana (cannot believe she was there all day and I only managed to get one photo).

She is going to be a great teacher one day! :)

We learned and played 'Ten Turns'.

We wrote numbers on a counting strip as high as we were able.

We learned about box turtles, tortoises, and water turtles.

We wrote our learning on a 'Turtle Thinking Map'.

On Friday, we wrote four facts we learned and then made a turtle craft.

We are all looking forward to the Monday when we get back from break to see the turtles my hubby and daughter will be bringing!

Ah, Springtime!

I really hope I don't jinx us, but wow, how lucky have we been with this gorgeous spring weather?  

This past week, we put our last spot on our Countdown to Spring Ladybug and sang our Spring poem.

Look at how the girls dressed up for the first day of spring!

We watched a Brainpop Jr. video and then discussed changes that we notice in spring.

We practiced making a pattern and showing it's unit in Math.

We listed some -ar words and made these ever-so-cute pirates*.

What a wonderful week we had.  

I cannot believe that tomorrow will be the first day of the fourth quarter!

Fairy Tales, Reader's Theater, and Leprechauns, Oh My!

We had another great week in room 109!  This week, I took over 50 photos!!!  I will do my best to select a good sample that will show all of the great things we did.  The kiddos crack me up when I am taking a picture as I hear, "Oh, that will be a good one for the blog."  With that said, here are some of the good ones for the blog...

  We made Rapunzel in her castle* and finished the prompt, 'If I were stuck in a tower I would...'

One student wrote, 'order a pizza.'

We practiced and prepared for our Reader's Theater performances.

What a wonderful time we had performing for each other as well as Mrs. Langston's and Mr. Holden's classes (and they performed for us too).  What fluent readers we have!

We made leprechauns** and finished the prompt, 'I feel lucky when...' and had a leprechaun visit our classroom!

Icky, Yucky Germs!

Without naming any names, I just had a parent say to me, that she was surprised with all the illnesses going around, that I was able to stay healthy.  So...guess who has been in bed since Saturday morning?  Boohoo!  Maybe I should try to venture outside in the sunshine and see if the sun can burn this virus out of here!!

We are also practicing our lines to enhance our fluency in fairy tales Reader's Theater.

Dr. Seuss Week

Whew, what a week!  Dr. Seuss week is one of my favorite, yet exhausting, weeks.  Add to all of the Dr. Seuss fun, Science Night, and you will find one wiped out teacher. ;)  

I first want to share the final products from our American Symbols unit.

I received great feedback from the students who loved looking through books to find facts about these symbols themselves.

We also did a Dr. Seuss Book Study, made three Dr. Seuss related class books, and worked with Dr. Seuss themed Literacy Stations.  Not sure why I didn't take photos of those...regardless, we had a wonderful week!
