About Me

My photo
I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in June 2009. I began my wonderful career teaching first grade shortly thereafter, in August 2009. In June 2016, I completed my Masters with the focus in Reading grades K-6th grade. This will be my seventh year utilizing a blog and hope that it will provide parents with another avenue to view their child's accomplishments throughout the school year.

Keeping the Blog...

After a lot of searching and driving my poor family crazy, I have decided to pay the monthly fee and continue using the blog for the rest of school year.  Whew, ok time to move on!
We had a great time the two days before our Thanksgiving break!  We published & celebrated our question & answer books in Writer's Workshop, made Pilgrim hats, made butter, and weaved a place mat!  I was sure to take more photos this week.  I'm also super excited about receiving the new camera I just ordered!!   Here are a few photos from these past two days:

I am really struggling here!  I had a new post all typed up (about 2 hours ago!) and was about to post the photos from the past two days, but had an error come up to tell me that I've reached my 1G storage limit.  I had no idea that I had a limit on photos I could post.  So, I have spent some time looking around the-ever-so-confusing Google site and it looks as if I need to now pay a monthly fee if I want to continue posting photos to my blog. :(  I just ordered a new camera and everything!!!  If there is anyone who can provide me with other options, I would greatly appreciate it.  Until then, I cannot post photos...

New Camera on the Horizon?

Usually, I have so many photos to choose from when I am making my weekly post.  I just realized I only took 5 photos this past week. :(  I'm not a big fan of using my phone as a camera.  Well, I may get a camera later on tonight!  A good friend is in town who just happens to be a cameraman and when I told him how I want a new camera for school, he said he might have an extra one handy that he can give me.  Woohoo!  Keep your fingers crossed for me!  Anyway, it was another great week.  We are loving Math with finding many ways to get to Today's Number, enhancing our writing skills, and learning about the day in the life of Pilgrims and Native Americans.  Here are a few photos:

Proud Americans

What a wonderful week we had learning about and discussing the reasons why we live in such a great country!  Here a a few photos I took throughout the week:

Election Day
We read Duck for President and a nonfiction book, Election Day.
We then completed various activities on the Smart Board related to those books.

Veterans Day

We made soldiers, read the book The Wall, by Eve Bunting,
wrote about what why veterans are so important,
and completed various activities on the Smart Board related to
Veterans Day.

We did a gallery walk in our lobby.
All of the first grade students did such a great job!

We joined the rest of the BES students and performed for our veterans.
One of my favorite days of the year!

Thank you veterans!

This week we read some nonfiction books about spiders and one fiction book.  We had fun making a list of facts and fiction about spiders at the end of the week!
Here are a few photos from our week:

First Snowfall of the Season!
I'm not a huge fan of snow; however, there is just something about the first snowfall that makes me smile!

Making Our Spider Fact Wheel

Read Diary of a Spider
